New English School is a private school of English, founded in 1995 by Ms Biljana Barna, BA English language and literature. It is situated in the town centre and is well-equipped with all necessary facilities including computers, video/audio programmes and a library, thus lively furnished classrooms especially aimed at schoolchildren and young adults. Through the years and experience, the school has flourished into a professional firm with the team of well-trained teachers and prides itself on more than 800 students in four neighbouring municipalities.
The team of teachers includes Ms Biljana Barna, DOS and Principal, Ms Svetlana Belić (BA English language and literature, CPE University of Cambridge) and Ms Katarina Žujović (BA English language and literature) employed on permanent bases and 10 more co-operatives in the extensions. The school deals with different levels and ages: the youngest learners are only 3-5 years old and they attend classes in the kindergarten, pre-school courses are meant for children aged 5-6 and courses for schoolchildren (YCH and OCH), teenagers and adults are classified into different levels according to the age and knowledge. The groups are small (8-10 students) and special attention is paid to each student individually, the record of which is kept in the registers in the school data software. The courses are as follows:
- Kindergarten (3-5) : beginners
- Pre-school (5-6) : beginners
- YCH (7-10) : beginners, lower-intermediate
- OCH (10-15) : beginners, lower-intermediate, intermediate
- Teenagers : beginners, lower-intermediate, FCE-group
- Adults : beginners, lower-intermediate, FCE-group
The programmes are carefully chosen and thoroughly carried out with plenty of additional audio/video material. The aim is to show that learning English could be fun, so the teachers use visual, audio and kinaesthetic methods to explain the situation rather than just read and translate. By doing this, the children are stimulated and we rarely have the cases of truancy. So far, we have used these programmes:

- Cambridge English for Schools - starter, 1, 2
- Blueprint - intermediate
- Look Ahead - intermediate
- New English Cambridge Course 1, 2
- Gold - FCE
Apart from these programmes, the children are engaged in different activities such as "making things", video-weekend and performances. They are also offered language courses in England (Leister for schoolchildren, London for teenagers and adults) and summer language camps in Yugoslavia (this year it is the Rudnik mountain).
Attending seminars and different teacher training courses enabled us to perform our knowledge successfully and working with well-known publishers (Heinemann, Longman, Oxford, Cambridge) helps us in our progress. The confirmation of this is an excellent pass in the Language Schools Competition in Zrenjanin (19th May, 1998) where our students won a few first and second prizes. From this year on, in co-operation with The British Council, we hope to offer our students different internationally recognized examinations: UCLES-Starters, Movers, Flyers, PET and FCE.
Our wish is to extend the views and knowledge of the children and lead them into the beauty of the language. In our humble opinion, we do feel that we are on the right way of achieving this.
