U periodu od septembra 2009. do juna 2010. naše Udruženje imalo je  iste prioritete kao i ranijih godina: promocija primene Zajedničkog evropskog jezičkog okvira u Srbiji i poboljšanje kvaliteta u pružanju jezičkih usluga kroz YALS- ova dešavanja.

Kontakti sa EAQUALS-om su održavani preko našeg predstavnika Vesne Stakić, koja je predstavljala YALS u Istanbulu od 23. do 25. aprila 2009. Osim YALS-a, Vesna Stakić je predstavljala i svoju školu Tom i Ema. Gospođa Vesna Stakić postavljena je za EAQUALS-ovog menadžera za Srbiju.

Nastavljamo sa izdavanjem YALS-ovog biltena sa svim informacijama o našem Udruženju. Bilten redovno šaljemo svim relevantim institucijama i pojedincima.

U septembru 2009. predstavnici YALS-a imali su sastanak sa gospođom Tinde Cerović-Kovač, visokim zvaničnikom u Ministarstvu obrazovanja Republike Srbije. Sastanak je bio izvanredna prilika da se promovišu YALS, EAQUALS i vrednosti koje oni dele.

Takođe u septembru 2009. organizovan je sastanak u Britanskom Savetu sa ciljem da se unapredi postojeća saradnja između YALS-a i Britanskog Saveta u Srbiji. Kao proizvod ovog sastanka dogovorili smo se oko uslova i spremamo se da potpišemo Sporazum o saradnji između Britanskog saveta i YALS-a.

U oktobru 2009. YALS i Udruženje profesora engleskog jezika (ELTA) u Srbiji potpisali su Sporazum o saradnji. Glavni cilj ovog Sporazuma je da se ojača mreža jezičkih stručnjaka i da se zajednički radi na usavršavanju profesora jezika. Kao rezultat ovog Sporazuma razmenili smo predstavnike na našim konferencijama (oktobar 2009. i maj 2010.) i našem predsedniku je omogućeno da se obrati članovima ELTA- e na njihovom godišnjem sastanku i da uh upozna sa ciljevima YALS-a.

Povodom YALS-ove desete godišnjice, uz podršku EAQUALS-a, organizovali smo jubilarnu dvodnevnu Konferenciju o testiranju, vrednovanju i sertifikovanju. Konferencija je održana u Beogradu, 16. i 17. oktobra u Guarneriusu. Predavači su bili Mila Angelova, član EAQUALS-ove grupe za sertifikaciju, Slobodanka Kitic, doktor lingvistike i Annie Broadhead, trener nastavnika i ELT autor. Takođe smo imali goste iz Kembridž ESOL-a – gospodin Majkl Karti i iz lokalnog Britanskog saveta – gospodin Željko Jovanović. Na osnovu povratnih informacija koje smo dobili - svih šezdesetak učesnika smatralo je da je Konferencija bila korisna i dobro organizovana.

Predstavnik YALS-a, gospođa Vesna Stakić, učestvovala je u EAQUALS-ovim radionicama u Gracu od 12 – 14. novembra, 2009.

U 2009. smo počeli reinspekcije kvaliteta nastave u našim školama uz korišćenje revidirane YALS-ove inspekcijske šeme. Škole koje su prošle reinspekciju u ovom periodu pokazale su visoke standarde u izvođenju nastave.

Oxford School iz Leskovca organizovao je peti YALS-ov literarni konkurs za učenike na nivoima od A1 do C1. Konkurs je zatvoren 27. februara a imena pobednika proglašena su 16. marta. I ove godine Pearson Longman nam je obezbedio knjige za pobednike i mi im se zahvaljujemo na ovom sponzorstvu.

Uspostavili smo kontakt sa MAQS-om, Makedonskom asocijacijom za kvalitet u pružanju jezičkih usluga, koji je takođe pridruženi član EAQUALS-a, i naš predstavnik bio je njihov gost na godišnjoj Konferenciji održanoj u Skoplju, u aprilu 2010.

Sedmi YALS-ov interni seminar održan je u Livingstonu (ranije Bami) u aprilu, 2010. u Beogradu. Seminar ‘PR as in Pronounce and Lesson Planning Revisited’ održala je gospođica Milica Savić, stariji lektor na Filozofskom fakultetu u Nišu, katerda za anglistiku. Bila je to izvanredna prilika za mlađe nastavnike da ponesu kući neke jasne ideje i veštine zanata.

Sledeće dve škole domaćini za redovne YALS-ove interne seminare biće New English School iz Pančeva  u novembru 2010. i Oxford School iz Leskovca u maju 2011.

Na godišnjoj skupštini Udruženja, u junu 2010. godine. Škola Penguin English iz Jagodine postala je punopravni član YALS-a.

Tri člana našeg Udruženja i dalje aktivno učestvuju u radu Sekcije škola stranih jezika pri Privrednoj komori Srbije

 

YALS Annual Report

In the period from September 2009 to June 2010 our Association shared the same priorities from the previous years: promotion of CEFR application in Serbia and enhancing quality language services through YALS events.

Contacts with EAQUALS were maintained through our representative Vesna Stakic, who represented YALS at EAQUALS AGM in Istanbul from 23 to 25 April 2009, in addition to representing her own school Tom and Emma. Ms Vesna Stakic was also appointed as a new EAQUALS Country Manager for Serbia.

We continue to publish YALS bulletin with all the information about our organization and to send it to the relevant institutions and individuals.

In September 2009, YALS representatives had a meeting with Tinde Kovac- Cerovic, a high official at the Ministry of Education of Serbia. The meeting was an opportunity to promote YALS, EAQUALS and their values.

Also in September, 2009 there was a meeting at the British Council with the aim to improve the existent cooperation between YALS and British Council in Serbia. As a follow- up of this visit we have agreed upon the terms and are about to sign a Memorandum of Understanding between the British Council and YALS.

In October, 2009, YALS and the English Language Teachers’ Association /ELTA/ in Serbia signed a Memorandum of Understanding. The main aim of this Memorandum is to strengthen the network of language professionals and to jointly work on teachers’ development. As a result of this MoU we exchanged representatives at our Conferences (October 2009 and May 2010) and our president was given a chance to address the ELTA members at the AGM and inform them about YALS and its goals.

On the occasion of YALS 10th anniversary, with EAQUALS support, we organized a Jubilee two-day Conference on testing, assessment and certification. The conference was held in Belgrade, on 16 – 17 October, 2009 at Guarnerius. The presenters were Mila Angelova, member of EAQUALS certification group, Slobodanka Kitic, PhD in linguistics and Annie Broadhead, teacher trainer and ELT author. There were also guests from Cambridge ESOL – Mr Michael Carthy and from the local British Council – Mr Zeljko Jovanovic. According to the feedback we received, all 60 participants found the conference useful and well- organized.

YALS representative, Vesna Stakic,  participated in EAQUALS workshop meeting in Graz on 12 – 14 November 2009.

 

In 2009 we started   quality in teaching reinspections in our schools using a  revised YALS inspection scheme. The schools which have undergone the reinspection in the reporting period have shown high standards in teaching.

Oxford School from Leskovac organized the fifth  YALS Literary Competition for students at levels ranging from A1 to C1. The competition was closed on February 27  and the names of the winners were announced on 16 March. This year Pearson Longman was again kind enough to provide readers for the winners and we would like to thank them for this sponsorship.

We have established a contact with MAQS – Macedonian Association for Quality Language Services, which is also EAQUALS Associate member, and our representative was  their guest at the annual conference held in Skopje, in April 2010.
The 7th YALS In-house seminar was held in Livingston (former Bami) in April, 2010, in Belgrade. The seminar “PR as in Pronounce and Lesson Planning Revisited” was presented by Ms Milica Savic, Senior Lector at the Faculty of Philosophy in Nis, English Department.  It was a great opportunity for young teachers to take home some clear ideas and tricks of the trade
The next two host schools for YALS regular In-house seminars are New English School – Pancevo in November 2010 and Oxford School- Leskovac in May 2011.
In June 2010, at YALS AGM, Penguin English  school from Jagodina became YALS full member.
Three of our members continue to take active participation in the Department for Foreign Languages of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce.

Izveštaj o reinspekciji nastave 2009/2010

YALS je i u protekloj školskoj godini ( 2009-2010 ) organizovao inspekciju nastave od strane nezavisnih inspektora, kao i prethodnih  godina.
Inspektori nastave su metodičari Milica Savić i Nina Lazarević, sa Niškog fakulteta.

Škole su svoje inspekcije održale po sledećem redosledu:

- Oxford School, Leskovac 10.12.2009
- Livingston, Beograd 14.12.2009
- New English School, Pančevo 15.04.2010
- Anglian, beograd 20.04.2010

Sve skole su  ocenjene visokim ocenama i YALS-ovom upravnom odboru je preporučeno da pomenute škole mogu da nastave da budu njegove članice.

Škole Big Bird i Oscar iz Beograda kao i škola Blue Moon iz Kule  nisu uspele da organizuju svoje inspekcije do kraja ove 2010 školske godine te će njihova biti održana u septembru iste godine.

Škola Tom and Emma iz Beograda, kao EAQUALS full member i International House, obe iz Beograda ne podležu inspekcijama nastave. 

 

Report on YALS Teaching Reinspection 2009/2010

As was the case in the previous years, YALS has carried out its teaching inspections within this past school year ( 2009-2010 ).
The inspections were carried out by independent inspectors Milica Savić and Nina Lazarević, both teaching Methodology at the University of Niš.

YALS schools were inspected on the following days:

  1. Lingva, Valjevo 23.11.2009
  2. Hello, Belgrade 07.12.2009
  3. Oxford School, Leskovac 10.12.2009
  4. Livingston, Belgrade 14.12.2009
  5. New English School, Pančevo 15.04.2010
  6. Anglian, Belgrade 20.04 2010
  7. M School, Leskovac 03.06.2010

All schools were assessed with high marks and it was recommended to the YALS Managing Board that their membership should continue.

Schools Big Bird and Oscar from Belgrade and Blue Moon from Kula, were not able to complete their inspections until the end of June so they plan to carry them out no later than September.

Two schools from Belgrade, Tom and Emma ( full EAQUALS member ) and International House both have their own respective inspections and for that reason are not inspected in the same way.

YALS-ov seminar: PR as in PRONOUNCE
and LESSON PLANNING REVISITED

U subotu, 17. 4. 2010. održan je interni seminar YALS, u o.š. “Veljko Dugošević” u Beogradu. Seminar je organizovala škola  “Livingston”.

Tokom seminara obrađene su dve teme: Pronunciation i Lesson Planning. Radionice je vodila Milica Savić , viši lektor na Univrzitetu u Nišu,  Odsek za engleski jezik. Svaka radionica je trajala po 90 minuta.

Prva radionica je bila PR as in PRONOUNCE. Učesnici su imali priliku da primene veliki broj praktičnih aktivnosti koje su pre svega upotrebljive u smislu vežbanja izgovora, a osim toga efikasno aktiviraju i motivišu učesnike.

U pauzi između dve radionice predstavnici The English Book su predstavili novo izdanje OUP interaktivnog rečnika što je takođe pobudilo veliku pažnju učesnika seminara.

Tokom sledeće radionice LESSON PLANNING REVISITED obrađeni su  načini planiranja časa i različite forma formulara plana časa. Nakon teorijskog uvoda i sumiranja postojećih znanja učesnici su u grupama napisali primer plana časa na zadatu temu, odnosno jezičku oblast. Potom je svaka grupa proradila svoj plan sa voditeljem i tako došla do optimalne forme plana časa.

Seminar je trajao od 10:30 do 15.30, sa ukupno 30 učesnika iz različitih gradova Srbije. Cilj izvođenja seminara bio je dvojak: 1. da sadržaj bude aktuelan i koristan i 2. da se za rad omogući podsticajna atmosfera tako da ova subota bude ne samo korisno - radna već zabavno – korisno - radna. Povratna mišljenja učesnika o sadržaju i organizaciji seminara potvrđuju da su oba cilja ostvarena. and  LESSON PLANNING REVISITED

On Saturday, 17. 4. 2010. an in-house YALS seminar was held at “Veljko Dugosevic” primary school, organised by “Livingston Language School”.

Our guest presenter was Ms. Milica Savic, a lecturer from the University of Nis, Department of English. The two workshops themed pronunciation and lesson planning lasted 90 minutes each.

The first session dealt with pronunciation. It offered a number of hands-on activities, real atmosphere and energy boosters, which at the same time proved to be applicable and very useful to a range of levels and learners.

In between the sessions the representatives of  “The English Book”  presented OUP’s new interactive dictionary, which also attracted a lot of attention from the participants.

The second workshop took the participants further and deeper into the field of lesson planning. Based on some theoretical input it also offered a great deal of practical ideas on how to write a good and useful lesson plan. In groups the participants created sample lesson plans on a set content. In the follow up session each of the plans was carefully examined and discussed enabling the participants to leave the workshop with a clear idea of how to write a good lesson plan.

The seminar lasted from 10:30 to 15:30 with 30 participants from different towns in Serbia attending it. The objective of the seminar was twofold: 1. the participants were to take home with them some clear ideas and useful tricks of the trade and 2. the participants were to enjoy in a brainfriendly and humanising details while working. Both aspects were achieved, which is confirmed by the feedback on both workshops and the organistion of the whole day. MAQS Konferencija u Skoplju

MAQS, makedonska asocijacija za kvalitet jezičkih usluga, održala je konferenciju u Skoplju 17.aprila 2010.godine u trajanju od 10.00 do 15.00. Bilo mi je zadovoljstvo da tom prilikom predstavljam YALS.

Konferencija je počela sa prezentacijom udruženja MAQS, koju je održala Elisaveta Tanevska, predsednik asocijacije MAQS. MAQS, pridruženi član EQUALS-a je, kako je Tanevska objasnila, završio obuku vezanu za inspekciju a takođe ima i ulogu provajdera Britanskog Saveta. Do sada je organizovao dve konferencije i napravio tri verzije vodiča. Takođe ima zajedničke sertifikate, testove za određivanje nivoa znanja i istovetnu dokumenta za inspekciju.  Prema rečima Tanevske, dodatne informacije mogu se naći na njihovom internet sajtu www.maqs.org

Sledeća dva predavanja održala je Mila Angelova, predstavik EQUALS-a. Kao i na poslednjoj konferenciji YALS-a, cilj prezentacija bio je Najnovija dostignuća u EQUALS-u, Opšti pregled EAQUALS-ovog projekta, Primena kvaliteta u procedurama ocenjivanja. Najbitnije stavke su bile sertifikati i procedura ocenjivanja, sa posebnim akcentom na standardizaciju obuke, ocenjivanje predavača, govorne/pisane upotrebe jezika kao i na testove za određivanje napretka.

MAQS konferencija organizovana je u prilično prijatnoj i druželjubivoj atmosferi škole ESP, jedne od škola članica MAQS-a u Makedoniji, što je učesnicima konferencije omogućilo da se upoznaju sa najnovijim i najefektivnijim načinima i procedurama učenja jezika.

 

MAQS Conference in Skopje

MAQS, Macedonian Association for Quality Language Services, held its Conference from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on 17th April, 2010 in Skopje, Macedonia. It was my pleasure to represent YALS at this event.

The Conference started with MAQS presentation, delivered by Elisaveta Tanevska, MAQS Chair. MAQS, EQUALS associate member, as Ms Tanevska explained, has completed the inspection training and has acted as the British Council provider. So far they have organized two conferences and they have worked on three versions of their guide. Also they have joint certificates, placement tests and uniformed inspection documents. For further reference Ms Tanevska referred to their website www.maqs.org.

The next two sessions were held by Ms Mila Angelova, EQUALS representative. Similarly to the YALS latest Conference, the focus of her presentations was on the Latest Developments in EQUALS, General Overview of its Project and Attaching Quality to the Assessment Procedures. The crucial points were certificates and assessment procedures, with special emphasis on standardization trainings, teacher judgments, spoken/ written performances as well as progress tests.

MAQS Conference was organized and held in a rather pleasant, friendly and cozy atmosphere in ESP, one of the MAQS members’  schools, and enabled its participants to get to know  the latest and the most effective language teaching activities and procedures.

Izveštaj sa radionica EAQUALS-a

koje su održane u Evropskom centru za moderne jezike u Gracu od 12. do 14. novembra 2009. godine.
Konferenciji je prisustvovala Vesna Stakić, kao predstavnik Škole ’Tom & Emma’ i YALS

Rad na sledećim projektima (SIPs – special interest projects), koji su započeti u Budimpešti novembra 2007. godine i nastavljeni u Lisabonu novembra 2008. ostvarivao se u paralelnim sesijama:

  • Nastavni programi i provera znanja zasnovani na CEFR (Zajednički jezički okvir Saveta Evrope), cilj: da se obezbedi podrška u primeni nastavnih planova koji prate CEFR i u procenjivanju znanja polaznika prema nivoima CEFR, radi izdavanja EAQUALS-ovih diploma,
  • CEFR za firme, cilj: da se podrži primena CEFR-a u firmama i izrade odgovarajući opisi nivoa,
  • Okvir za obuku nastavnika, cilj: koristeći EAQUALS-ovu tabelu stručnog profilisanja nastavnika stranih jezika, da se izrade opisi nivoa stručnosti nastavnika (i kriterijumi za akreditaciju), koji bi se koristili za stručne seminare,
  • Samoprocenjivanje, cilj: da se izradi sveobuhvatni set kriterijuma za samoprocenu jezičkih ustanova, da bi se pomoglo potencijalnim kandidatima da utvrde da li ispunjavaju kriterijume za pristupanje EAQUALS-u,
  • ISO podrška, cilj: da se EAQUALS-ovi standardi kvaliteta prilagode ISO kriterijumima i da se obezbede pomoć i podrška za ISO provere kvaliteta,
  • EAQUALS-ov rečnik osnovnih izraza, cilj: da se obezbedi veća primena drugih jezika u EAQUALS-u tako što će se izraditi englesko-nemačko-francuski rečnik osnovnih reči i izraza koji se koriste u EAQUALs-ovim inspekcijama.

Učesnici u radionicama su birali jedan projekat u kojem će da učestvuju i meni je najinteresantniji bio projakat Nastavni programi i provera znanja zasnovani na CEFR-u kojim rukovodi Brian North. Da bi jezička ustanova mogla da izda EAQUALS-ovu diplomu polazniku, EAQUALS će morati da akredituje sistem provere znanja te ustanove. Provera zananja će se vršiti u toku celog jezičkog tečaja zasnovanog na CEFR.  U početku će samo akreditovani članovi moći da izdaju diplome svojim polaznicima a kasnije će se to proširiti i na škole članice pridruženih članova EAQUALs-a. Projekat dodele EAQUALS-ovih diploma polaznicima akreditovanih škola je završena i primenjivaće se od 1. januara 2010 što znači da će zainteresovane škole od tada moći da podnesun zahtev da im se dodeli pravo da izdaju EAQUALS diplome.

U toku susreta u Gracu održana je Vanredna konferencija članova EAQUALS-a, na kojoj je u pridruženo članstvo EAQUALS-a primljen Provincijski institut za unapređenje nastave Trentino, Italija i Asocijacija za strane jezike Privredne komore Hrvatske.

 

REPORT on EAQUALS Workshop Meeting

The event was held at the European Centre for Modern Languages in Graz.

The following special interest projects (SIPs) started in Budapest in November 2007 and further developed in Lisbon in November 2008, continued in parallel sessions:

  • Curriculum and Assessment, aim: to provide support in implementing a CEFR-orientated curriculum and in assessment of levels, in order to issue EAQUALS  certificates;
  • CEFR for Companies, aim: to stimulate understanding of CEFR within companies and develop CEFR-business descriptors;
  • Framework for Teacher Training, aim: using the EAQUALS Professional Profiling Grid to generate a framework of descriptors (and possible accreditation citeria) for teacher training courses;
  • Self Assessment, aim: to develop a comprehensive school self-review pack in order to assist potential new members with attaining EAQUALS standards;
  • ISO-ToolKit, aim:to adapt EAQUALS quality requirements for ISO standards and provide templates and guidelines for ISO audits;
  • EAQUALS Core Glossary, aim: to create a more multilingual environment by establishing an English-German-French glossary of main words and expressions used in the EAQUALS inspection scheme.

The participants in  the workshops chose one special interest project they would work one and I chose the Curriculum and Assessment SIP facilitated by Brian North. In order to be able to issue an EAQUALS Certificate of Acheivement EAQUALS will have to accredit a language institution's assessment system. A school will issue certificates based on continuous assessment of the students within a CEFR curriculum.  To start with only accredited members will have the right to issues certificates but later the scheme will be extended to schools belonging to associate members. The scheme has been fully developed  and will be operational from 1st January 2010.

A brief Extraordinary General Meeting was held where, two new associate members were accepted into EAQUALS: IPRASE del Trentino, Italy-Provincial Institute for Educational Research and the Association for Foreign Languages of the Croatian Chambre of Economy  and the Consultants-E, Spain  (training in the use of digital media in ELT) was accepted as project partner.

YALS-ova konferencija povodom desetogodišnjice rada
“Najnovija dostignuća i praktična primena CEFR-a u testiranju, ocenjivanju i sertifikaciji”

Zadovoljstvo mi je sa vas informisem o Konferenciji pod nazivom „Testing, Assessment and Certification“ - Testiranje, ocenjivanje i sertifikacija koja je odrzana 17. i 18. 10. 2009.  u Centru lepih umetnosti „Guarnerius“ u Beogradu. Ovu odličnu i uspešnu Konferenciju je ogranizovala Asocijacija škola stranih jezika Srbije – YALS povodom  deset godina svog postojanja.

Prvog dana predavaci su bili Mila Angelova sa svojom radionicom na temu Sertifikacija I Slobodanka Kitić sa svojom radionicom na temu Ocenjivanje. Mila Angelova je direktor DOS AVO Bell School of English u Sofiji, u Bugarskoj i član je EAQUALS sertifikacijske projektne grupe panela za ocenjivanje. Slobodanka Dana Kitić, doktor nauka u oblasti lingvistike, predaje na Univerzitetu u Beogradu, Univerzitetu u Nišu, Državnom Univerzitetu u Novom Pazaru i Mediteranskom Univerzitetu u Crnoj Gori.

Drugog dana predavači su bili Annie Broadhead, ESOL predavač, instruktor za predavače, ELT autor, sa svojom radionicom na temu Testiranje i Željko Jovanović, Menadžer za razvoj poslovanja i  Cambridge ESOL lokalni sektretar, koji je objavio novine koje se odnose na Cambridge ispite. Ona je i vodja tima za Cambridge University TESOL testove govora, predsednik za testove slušanja za najviši nivo a piše i za Cambridge ESOL ispite.

Predavači su omogućili praktičnu obuku iz primene CEF nivoa u testiranju i ocenjivanju, predstavili EAQUALS šemu sertifikacije, ohrabrili nastavnike na dalji razvoj, predstavili nove načine polaganja Cambridge ispita u Britanskom Savetu – CB /testovi koji se rade na kompjuteru/, koji će omogućiti efikasnije i efektivnije i češće polaganje ispita. Takodje su izlagali o raznim procedurama standardizacije, EAQUALS inspekcijskom i sistemu za ocenjivanje, pristupu ocenjivanju koji je baziran na CEFR-u, postizanju kvaliteta u procesima ocenjivanja, moderacijskim tehnikama, alternativnom ocenjivanju kao tipu evaluacije koji direktno procenjuje jezičke veštine učenika, testu kao proceduri merenja sposobnosti, znanja ili izvodjenja /test postignuća, test sklonosti ka jezicima, test postignutog nivoa, test vičnosti, dijagnostički test, test napretka, TOEFL, TOEIC, TSE, TWE/, pilotiranju testova, pregledu rezultata testa, pouzdanosti /validnosti testova, tehnikama, nastavnim sredstvima, referentnim materijalima, dodatnim materijalima, metodologiji predavanja engleskog jezika danas itd.

Učesnici, njih oko šezdeset, slušali su pažljivo, postavljali pitanja, aktivno razmenjivali svoja iskustva u predavanju i testiranju i bili su slobodni da izraze svoja misljenja na razne teme koje su bile obuhvaćenje u predavanjima. Članovi i predstavnik ELTA-e, udruženja sa kojim YALS ima uspešnu saradnju su takodje bili prisutni.

Evo šta su neki od učesnika izjavili o Konferenciji:

  • Veoma korisne informacije koje se tiču CEFR, Cambridge ESOL ispita i budućih planova  Britanskog Saveta.
  • Konferencija mi je dala veoma koristan savet za moj posao u budućnosti sa dobrom kombinacijom domaćih i stranih predavača.
  • O svemu se povelo računa i moja očekivanja su u potpunosti ispunjena.
  • Ono što cenim pre svega je mogućnost praktične primene onoga sto je naučeno i o čemu se diskutovalo na ovom skupu. Većina nastavnika shvata ozbiljno ocenjivanje ali mi i nemamo uvek jasnu sliku šta se pod time zahteva, sem standardnih formalnih testova. Nakon ove konferencije, drago mi je što mogu reći da je moje razumevanje toga znatno napredovalo
  • Odlična lokacija i prijatan ambijent privukao je učesnike iz mnogih škola u Srbiji.
    Predavači su, svaki iz svog ugla, dali uvid u temu koja nije ni malo jednostavna. ‘Na taj način svaki učesnik je imao pristupačno usmerenje ka onome što ga zanima, svako je bio edukovan i mogao je da izvuče najbolje  iz svake prezentacije. Takođe, bilo je mnogo korisnih informacija za poslovanje škola jezika i oni su mogli da prepoznaju svoje mesto  kod nas i u međunarodnim institucijama, što je put međunarodno priznatim sertifikatima i diplomama. Sve u svemu, konferencija je bila uspešna, a učesnici zadovoljni svojim prisustvom i organizacijom. Treba još pomenuti da je ovo jedinstvena prilika da se škole jezika upoznaju, razmene iskustva i eventualno razmotre buduću saradnju.

Lično smatram da moram da izrazim zahvalnost za uspešnu organizaciju I gostoprimstvo YALS-u. Očekujem sledeću YALS konferenciju ili bilo koju drugu aktivnost ili dogadjaj u organizaciji ove Asocijacije uz izuzetnu preporuku svim mojim kolegama.

 

YALS 10th Anniversary Conference
“Latest Developments and Practical Application of CEFR in Testing, Assessment and Certification”

I have the pleasure to inform you about the Conference on Testing, Assessment and Certification held at “Guarnerius” – Centar Lepih Umetnosti / the Center of Fine Arts/ in Belgrade on 17th and 18th October, 2009. This wonderful and successful Conference was organized by YALS – the Association of Language Schools of Serbia on the occasion of its 10th anniversary.

On the first day, the presenters were Ms. Mila Angelova with her workshops on Certification and Ms Slobodanka Kitić with her workshops on Assessment. Ms Mila Angelova is the Head of DOS of AVO-Bell School of English in Sofia, Bulgaria and a member of the EAQUALS Certification Project Group of the assessment panel. Ms. Slobodanka Dana Kitić, PhD in Linguistics, teaches at the University of Belgrade, University of Niš, State University of Novi Pazar and Mediterranean University of Montenegro.
On the second day, the presenters were Ms  Annie Broadhead, ESOL teacher, teacher trainer, ELT author, with her workshop on Testing and Mr  Željko Jovanović,  Business Development Manager and Cambridge ESOL Local Secretary, who introduced novelties regarding Cambridge exams. Ms Broadhead is also a Team Leader for the Cambridge University TESOL Speaking Tests, Chair of Proficiency Listening Test and she also writes for the Cambridge ESOL exams.
The presenters provided practical training in the application of CEF levels in testing and assessment, introduced EAQUALS certification scheme, encouraged teachers to further develop, introduced new ways of taking Cambridge exams at the British Council – CB /computer based/ tests which will enable more efficient and effective and more frequent exam taking. They also talked about different procedures of standardization, EAQUALS inspection assessment system, CEFR-related assessment approach, attaching quality to assessment procedures, moderation techniques, alternative assessment as a type of evaluation that directly evaluates learners’ language skills, test as a procedure for measuring ability, knowledge or performance (achievement test, language aptitude test, placement test, proficiency test, diagnostic test, progress test, TOEFL, TOEIC, TSE, TWE), test piloting, reviewing test results, test reliability/validity, techniques, teaching aids, reference materials, supplementary materials, methodology of ELT today,  etc.

The participants, about sixty of them, listened attentively, asked questions, actively exchanged their teaching and testing experiences and were free to express their opinions on different matters covered in the presentations. There was also a representative of ELTA present, the Association that YALS has successful cooperation with.

Here is what some of the participants said about the Conference:

  • “Very useful information concerning CEFR, Cambridge ESOL exam opportunities and future British Council plans.”
  • “The Conference has provided useful advice for my future work with a good combination of domestic and foreign lecturers.”
  • “Everything was well taken care of and my expectations were fully met .
  • “What I value above all is the possibility of practical applications of things learnt and shared at this event. Most teachers take assessment seriously but we do not always have a clear picture of what it entails, apart from standard formal tests. After this conference, I am glad to say that my understanding of it has greatly improved.”
  • “An excellent venue and the pleasant atmosphere delighted the participants from a lot of schools from Serbia.
  • “The presenters, from their own point of view, have provided an insight into the matter that is not at all simple. In that way, each participant had the approachable direction towards his /her interests, everybody wad educated and could take the advantage of each presentation. There was also a great deal of useful information for managing language schools and they could recognize their place both in domestic and international institutions, which is the road ahead to the internationally recognized certificates and diplomas. All in all, the Conference was very successful and the participants were satisfied with the presentations and organization. It should be also pointed out that this is a unique opportunity for  language schools to get acquainted with one another, share and exchange their experience and consider future cooperation.”

Personally speaking, I have to express gratitude for successful organization and hospitality to YALS. I am looking forward to the next YALS conference or any other activity or event organized by this Association and I would highly recommend it to all my colleagues.
